Dogs on Skis Profile
Dogs on Skis started in the mid 80’s playing covers of classic rock. They gained popularity in the Iowa City area by focusing on playing songs that people liked to dance to. From the beginning, attention was given to their ability to perform material with vocal harmonies. In 1990 the band released their first album “I Bark Therefore I Am”. As the band gained popularity they began to play area street dances. The band cut back in the mid 90’s. As the millennium came the band was playing consistently again. 2003-2005 have been the was most successful years to date with regular club shows, outdoor concerts and an increased loyal following. Over the three year period the band played 145 shows.
Nick joined the ‘Dogs’ in the winter of 1989 and has shared the duty of lead and rhythm guitar as well as lead and backup vocals. Aside from Dogs on Skis, Nick performs solo acoustic shows at many of the local night clubs around the area, and has been a mainstay of Bo James Friday After Class (FAC) shows for the past six years in downtown Iowa City. 2003 is currently working on an album of original songs and hopes to release it in the coming year saw the release of his first solo CD, Big Old Moon.
Mike joined the group in 1999 on drums and also does some backup vocals-he started playing in groups in his early teens and is a veteran of over 30 years while playing several years around the country and in Las Vegas at many of the main hotels while recording in L.A. on several projects.
Jeff joined the band in 1991 as bass player and one of the lead vocalists—a long time veteran of area bands Jeff spent several years at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles working as a sound technician and still is very much in touch with the local music scene being the manager of the West Music store in Marion.
Stu joined in 1988 to be one of the lead vocalists and plays keyboards, guitar and percussion. He splits his creative time with his other band Stickman, for which he is the singer and drummer. Stickman has released two CD’s with a third on the way in 2004. Check them out at Stickmanor.com. He also works with other musicians as a producer and engineer. His most recording work was on Dave Rogers' debut CD on Mullins Records. Stu was producer, engineer and drummer on that project.
